- KC KOALA
The children were much surprised when an unusual visitor shuffled into the room where they were seated, greeted them and introduced himself as KC Koala. They quickly realised though that they were going to have fun because he taught them a game everyone loved. Before they even began to get tired, he had them all sit down again to listen to a story. They learned songs too which made them all laugh. The teachers who were watching laughed too and everyone had a very happy time.
While they were playing though, the children were reminded that being kind to the people around you makes everything more comfortable and nicer for them but also for you. It can be something big like not laughing at someone’s bad drawing when they are embarrassed about it or it can be something small like shifting up on the carpet to make space for a classmate.
The children also heard, as they often have from Juffrou Zaan, that it’s important to be polite and well-mannered, particularly in the classroom, in a shop or at home, otherwise nothing functions as it should. KC Koala didn’t say these things in so many words, but the children heard them anyway in the games they played, the words of the songs and listening to the stories.
Anyone, coming as a visitor and observing the children at play during breaktime would see that the Pikkewyntjies are kind and friendly and polite. In short they are very nice, unspoilt children. Nevertheless, they are children and they need a visit from a KC Koala every now and then to remind them how to make their own piece of the world somewhere they all want to be.
