For weeks the teachers and children were particularly busy, keeping up with the pace of school work AND fitting in hours of practice for the end-of-year concert. Zaan was so proud of the children for coping very well under pressure and without a murmur of complaint of tiredness.

On the night I don’t know who enjoyed the concert more, the actors or the audience.

In groups, the children acted out the lyrics of hits from decades ago like ‘Mama Tembu’s Wedding’ and’ My Boy Lollipop’ and while the ageless appeal of the music filled the hall, the kids acted the lyrics with verve and humour and the audience loved every minute of the show.

We had been given permission to clap along - if we liked - and we certainly did. There was a lot of foot tapping too and the grannies and oupas in the audience who knew the lyrics, sang along with much pleasure.

The costumes and props were simply wonderful - a tribute to the teachers’ skill and dedication. Such as they were, they must have taken Zaan and her team hours and hours to design and make. The huge effort they put in, the teachers think well worth their trouble because the children learn skills from performing on a stage that they can’t learn in a classroom and very often discover talents they didn’t know they had.

It was very difficult to choose among the scenes as to what photos to choose but here are some shots of the bikini girls in the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini number and a group of the boys in Jailhouse Rock and the Junior Class, the Babbelbekkies, must have a look-in too. Their music was Shake It and the youngest member of the school, whom you will recognise by his yellow suit, joined in with gusto.

The concert ended with the song, You Raise Me Up composed by Josh Groban. It was a beautiful way to end such a happy evening.
