Some of the 2 or 3 year olds who start school at Pikkewyntjies have eaten only a small variety of foods in their lives so if there is something on their plates at lunchtime which they have never seen before, they tend to look at it suspiciously. When they see their friends tucking in they find the courage to have a taste and when they discover it’s good all is well.

  • The Astro Art Competition

The South African Astronomical Observatory has issued an invitation to all Foundation Phase earners, that is children in Grade R - Grade 3 to enter the Astro Art Competition.

At the end of the school year, groups of ex-Pikkewyntjies visit to show their reports and certificates to Zaan and the teachers. It’s a joy for the staff who have nurtured and taught these children as if they were their own, to admire the evidence of their hard work and dedication and when the older kids come too, there’s the added satisfaction that the Pikkewyntjies’s philosophy endures and fosters a work ethic and a drive to make the most of opportunities.
