- PK new shoes
One of the supporters of Pikkewyntjies Preschool asked our principal, Zaan, to spend some of his donation on school goers who live in Mooi Uitsig. This includes a few newcomers to the village as well as those who graduated from Pikkewyntjies. They all attend local schools in Kleinmond, Hermanus or Grabouw.
This winter of 2023 has brought extreme weather conditions to the Western Cape. Wet, windy, unpleasantly cold days with no sign of the sun make it very difficult to dry the washing so it was suggested that each school girl or boy be offered a choice of another school jersey or a pair of grey school trousers or a raincoat. As it turned out, for some of the children the pressing need was for new shoes
The idea found favour, the choices were made and Zaan drove the beneficiaries in the Pikkewyntjies bus, to Kleinmond, our nearest town, to make the purchases.
Everyone was glad to have new clothes. Some were quietly glad, others whose jerseys were hand-me-downs and rather thin were absolutely thrilled to have a warm jersey while those who walk a fair distance to school were clearly looking forward to covering the distance without rain dripping inside their shirts.
It was a splendid idea made possible by this thoughtful and generous man. The warmth of his gift will be felt by these boys and girls this winter - and their mothers, struggling to get the washing dry.
