Dear friends, on behalf of the little Pikkewyntjies who don't know whom they have to thank, we thank you for supporting them with your time, your expertise and your money.

WATER

The need to save water is a hot topic in the Western Cape. Here in Betty's Bay we have plenty of water but it's never too early to teach good water conservation habits.

Juffrou Zaan has introduced a no running taps policy in the bathroom. Instead there are plastic cooldrink bottles fixed to the shelf above which the children squeeze once to wet their toothbrushes or several times to get a drink.

They also paid a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Betty's Bay and tested the quality of the water by catching insects in the streams and ponds and comparing them to pictures on a chart. Each insect had a different value so they could assess the purity of the water by the total value of the insects living in the water. Much fun was had by all and a valuable lesson learned at the same time.
