- Netball
Every year a family in Betty’s Bay puts up a generous amount of money and challenges others who also wish to support this remarkable little school, to match it. Somehow or other, often at the last minute, the last R100 is raised and the target reached. What joy and jubilation follow for it means that some urgent repairs can be undertaken and even some much wished-for improvements may perhaps be possible.
Certainly the biggest sponsor will suggest the improvements he and his family would like to see made with some of their donation and last year one of those was to recondition the neglected netball courts - for the benefit of teenage ex-Pikkewyntjies.

It was an inspired idea to do this because the courts are very popular with both boys and girls, although the boys prefer to use them for their own version of soccer. Don’t be thinking, however, that it’s only the kids who play. Over weekends Moms are very happy to join their daughters for a game.
The cherry on top came later in the year when the completely unexpected happened - Mooi Uitsig was chosen to host the Overberg Inter-School Netball Tournament. What an honour, the whole village turned out to watch. It was a wonderful weekend and the Mooi Uitsig supporters were delighted that although their team didn’t win, several of their players were commended with certificates at the prizegiving.
It’s not surprising there’s even greater enthusiasm among the players now
